Research - River Crane

Since 2021, we have been leading geomorphological work within the River Crane catchment (west London) funded by the Crane Valley Partnership and Thames Water under the Thames Water Smarter Water Catchment (SWC) initiative.
This work has involved extracting and synthesizing information from various sources (e.g. maps, air photographs, remotely-sensed images) and undertaking River Engineering Modification (REM), URS and MoRPh surveys, frequently in collaboration with volunteers.
We have developed a multi-scale, catchment-based framework within which to integrate this information. We are using the framework to link information derived from the different scales and methods to monitor the river, to understand its functioning, to identify potential sites for river enhancement and restoration, and to produce outline restoration designs that can frame restoration interventions.
